The Tools
No weapons. Tools everyone can practise.
Flashlight — Evidence
“What do we actually know?” Looking carefully is a form of care because wrong assumptions can hurt people.
Ear — Listening
“What is this person actually saying?” Listening interrupts the tendency to answer an imagined version of someone.
Mirror — Reflection
“What part of this is the world, and what part is my interpretation?” Reflection is not punishment.
Heart — Compassion
Understanding does not make every action acceptable. Compassion asks what happened, protects those at risk and looks for repair.
Question mark — Humility
“What would change my mind?” A question is not weakness. It keeps learning possible.
Humour — Anti-grandiosity
Gentle humour can make mistakes survivable. The fool and the master may be the same person before and after learning.
Friendship — Feedback
Other people can show us what our own window cannot. Healthy friendship allows correction without humiliation.
